Abstract	The question of location-correlated illnesses has intrigued mankind since antiquity. Nevertheless, serious research in this field has been lacking mainly because of it´s association with suspect cult phenomena. As a consequence opinions offered have not resulted in a minimum of fundamental agreement. In view of this unsatisfactory situation the Carstens Foundation initialized a new research program and, together with Federal Ministeries, funded a basic study of the relevant questions. We report on both of theses projects. Results gained so far and other existing evidence lead to the supposition that in certain cases it is not possible to exclude non-trivial influences of the location or vital parameters of living organisms.
