| Abstract | In the early
19thcentury German doctors and practitioners introduced homeopathy
thoughts and ideas on Homeopathy to Russia. Interest grew, especially among
the aristocracy and members of the orthodox church. However, the official
medical community remained sceptical. During the cholera epidemics homeopathy was widely used throughout rural regions in Russia. In urban areas homeopathic departments were established in hospitals. In addition, homeopathic associations were set up, newspapers were published and chemists specialised in homeopathic remedies. In 1913, the first congress congress of Russian Homeopaths took place. Under communist rule homeopathy was tolerated but played a minor role in practice. Recently however, homeopathy was experienced a modern day renaissance in Russia. Today there are more than 10.000 registered physicians who have additional qualifications in Homeopathy. It must be noted that there is still a great deal of controversy regarding the subject and there are only a few documents and publications existing. The aim of this project is to compile all information and sources about the history of homeopathy in libraries and archives and also to gain an insight into established homeopathic pharmacies and hospitals. An exchange of information with the association of Russian homeopaths has started. The result will be a detailed overview of the history of Homeopathy in Russia, including the current situation of homeopathy in the present medical system in Russia. |
